One Step Closer to Financial Freedom

Today Jimmy and I are celebrating being one step closer to financial freedom! It was such an amazing feeling to make that final payment on one of our loans and to watch it disappear from our debt snowball list. I can honestly say that we would never have paid this debt off early if it hadn't been for Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace University (FPU)!

I don't know about you but we we started living by the principles we learned in FPU five years ago this month. When we first started I honestly thought that budgeting would be too hard and it wouldn't work. I was wrong! Yes, there are times where we have done better at living by our budget than others and there are times that we have struggled because Jimmy is a spender and I am a saver and we have had different financial priorities. HOWEVER, we are ten million times better than we were five years ago.

For once I think that there is actually hope that we will eventually be debt free despite the huge amount of debt from Jimmy's school loans. I would listen to other Dave Ramsey fans tell their get out of debt stories and I would be happy for them but I would wonder why we are only about halfway to paying off our debt after five years and they paid there's off in two. This week I think that I figured it out--finally! Everyone is different! Duh! It really seems like a no brainer but it is true!

I can't let myself get discouraged and overwhelmed because they did it faster. They may not have had all the life set backs that we have and I definitely don't have the six figure income that a lot of the Dave Ramsey Channel on iHeart Radio callers have. It's no wonder that I can't compare their results to mine when we have made less than $35,000 for most of five years that we have been following Uncle Dave's program. We just have to be faithful to follow the principle set forth in the scripture and taught by Uncle Dave and we will eventually get there.

If you are looking for financial freedom you too can find it. It may take a while but it sure feels good when the little victories like paying off a loan comes down your pipe. You can do it and Dave Ramsey can help. For more information about Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace University you can Find Dave on Facebook or visit Visit Daveramsey.com.

  1. That is awesome! I've never been thru FPU, but listen to Dave's program every chance I get. I'm currently reading his book, "The Total Money Makover." Great plan to getting out of debt.

  2. I first found out about Dave through the orientation at the non-profit I worked for in St. Louis. Our training instructor was a HUGE Dave Ramsey fan would had become debt free through using his program. She let me borrow Total Money Makeover and after reading the book I knew that Jimmy and I needed to attend FPU. It was amazing and this year Dave has totally updated and revised the whole program. I wouldn't mind doing it all again for a refresher!

  3. Hi! I was checking out the followers on my blog and realized that I'd not made it over to your blog yet. I'm so glad that I did today. We too are paying down some debt. We actually had paid off all of our debt earlier in our marriage but a job loss caused us to run up more debt. We've not been through FPU but have read the Total Money Makeover. I was glad to find your blog because it is so inspiring to hear of others paying off debt. It helps me to not get discouraged. This also really makes me want to go through FPU. :) Thanks for posting this. Best wishes as you continue to gain financial freedom.

  6. Congratulations on getting your way closer to that freedom! It was a good move for both of you to get some help from someone who is knowledgeable in the field. They are there to give us expert advice when our minds are too clouded with financial stress. =)
