God My Shield

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?” 2 Samuel 22:31 & 32 NASB

When life goes haywire who do you run to? I haven’t written much lately because our lives have been going crazy. When things are nuts, it takes an extra measure of determination to keep your focus. I fall short weekly – sometimes daily! Thankfully, I feel like God really got my attention and focus back during DNOW and it has greatly helped me the last two weeks. Despite the chaos that has surrounded me, I have doubled my efforts to run to God who is my shield. I want to take refuge in Him.

Thankfully God also gives us physical people and relationships that He uses to shelter us. I hope that you had an earthly father who loved and protected you and sheltered you, but I realize that not everyone did have such a father. However, this can’t stop you from being a shield or shelter for the people in your lives. Sometimes shielding is as simple as listening to someone who has had peanut butter smeared on their laptop for no apparent reason. Sometimes it means guiding and correcting someone who looks up to you when they are making decisions that could put them in danger (physical or emotional).

Shield:
  1. a broad piece of armor, varying widely in form and size, carried apart from the body, usually on the left arm, as a defense against swords, lances, arrows, etc.
  2. a person or thing that protects.
  3. to protect (someone or something) with or as if with a shield.
  4. to serve as a protection for.
  5. to hide or conceal; protect by hiding.
Stop & Think

Who has been a shield for you in your times of trouble?

How did those experiences of being shielded affect your life?

How have you shielded someone?

How can God use to shield and bless someone else’s life?

  4. I am blessed by your words and the fact that you know both your heavenly father and your earthly father, both of which love you and has and will continue to protect you.
